Cohen: Time to Revisit the Ban

In an interview this evening with CNN's Wolf Blitzer, former Defense Secretary William Cohen expressed support for Congress to re-visit "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
"It's time to start thinking about it and starting to discuss it," Cohen said. "I think what we're hearing from within the military is what we're hearing from within society, that we're becoming a much more open, tolerant society for diverse opinions and orientation," Cohen said, referring to the ban as "a policy of discrimination."
Cohen went on to say that "we ought to have discussions, some hearings," and noted that "I think that [incoming Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman] Levin and others will ask for hearings and listen to testimony."
Cohen's remarks, coming just hours after today's op-ed by General Shalikashvili, are a sure sign that "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is on its last, very wobbly, leg.

How about gay people who would serve raise a campaign to the effect that they will NOT serve until gay people have full rights in the country that would be served? Wouldn't that make more sense than begging for the right to be killed in defense of a country that gives you ONLY second class citizenship?
