Lessons on the Unimpressive

There she goes again.

Always ready to wage a battle against common sense and practicality, Elaine Donnelly is in a tizzy again. As our friends over at Good As You point out, Ms. Donnelly is upset about recent comments from Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-NY) about the Pentagon's ludicrous dismissal of gay linguists.

"I don't think anybody should look on this as an incident that is impressive -- it's just the opposite," Donnelly told OneNewsNow.

I have no doubt that Ms. Donnelly knows a thing or two about unimpressive things, but she's just plain wrong on this one. What is unimpressive is Ms. Donnelly's disregard for the service of lesbian and gay Americans; her tasteless attacks on military leaders; her flippant attitude towards the sacrifice of gay men and women in uniform; and her repetitive, if subtle, suggestion that she is safer with America's gay linguists not reporting for duty.

Here's a question for Ms. Donnelly, which she'll likely never answer: Is it better to be protected by the talents of an openly gay American than not to be protected at all?

I know it gets chilly up in her home state of Michigan, but now Elaine Donnelly has become down-right icy. Her empty rhetoric serves no purpose except to put her own homophobia on public display. And, to sum it all up, that may be the most unimpressive thing of all.

"Apparently, says Donnelly, Ackerman didn't understand the ban extends to those DLI students as well."

1,) Ackerman didn't even mention DLI

2.) Ackerman was encouraging Rice to recruit linguists for the State Department, not DLI

3.) Why would Ackerman recruit linguists to be students at DLI anyway?

4.) The desperation is comically obvious.

Donnelly: "I asked this question of the Department of the Army: Why were they expending resources of the Defense Language Institute to train individuals who are not eligible to be in the military?"

1.) Gays are eligible to be in the military, just not openly

2.) Apparently the DoD's gaydar is broken

3.) I cannot believe I share oxygen with this woman

4.) I am so sorry Ms. Donnelly has to waste her tax money on queers who save her ass from terrorist attacks.
