Honoring an American Patriot

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel had this article on the life of Richard Taylor, a Wisconsin man who recently passed away. Taylor and his partner of 49 years, Ray Vahey, came out publicly only last year to take on the fight for marriage equality in Wisconsin. Speaking all over the state, they shared the stories of their "silent generation" and talked about the importance of equality.

One of the most striking quotes in the article was Vahey’s about his partner’s military service during World War II:

“Richard voluntarily put himself into harm's way to protect his country and the rights of all Americans of that day, and all of the generations that have followed. Now there is an attempt to separate Richard from society and take away his right to equality under the law.”

Blogger Towleroad had this to say about Richard Taylor's life and activism:

“Talk about serving one's country in so many ways! Every Congressional member who is against same-sex marriage or gays in the military should know the story of Vahey and Taylor, model citizens and everyman American heroes.”
