Time Progresses, Mitt

Bay Windows reporter Laura Kiritsy has an in-depth opinion piece out today that takes a look at Massachusetts Governor (and rumored '08 presidential candidate) Mitt Romney's views on LGBT rights . . . then and now. According to Kiritsy, Romney has ran far to the right on gay issues since he penned a seemingly supportive letter to his home state's Log Cabin Republicans chapter some twelve years ago.

Here's what Kiritsy writes about Romney and "Don't Ask, Don't Tell:"

"While Romney said he supported President Bill Clinton’s 'Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell' policy against openly gay service members, he sounded downright optimistic that the battle on that issue wasn’t over. 'I believe that there will be change over time as the military establishment and the rank and file become more comfortable with the realities of sexual orientation in the military,' said Romney. 'I will support progress being made in that area as time progresses and the military and society becomes more accepting.'"

Hi, Governor. Guess what? Today, the military establishment and the rank and file are more comfortable and ready to get rid of the ban.

Now that time has progressed, and the opinion inside and outside the military favors repeal, will you stay true to your word and lend your support to the cause?
