Another Date with Duncan Hunter?
Congressional Quarterly reports shocking news: "In a surprise move, House Armed Services Chairman Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., will announce today that he will begin laying the groundwork for a White House run in 2008."
For those of you who don't know, Hunter has been one of the chief roadblocks in Congress to getting "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" repealed. Hunter has steadfastly refused to allow even a hearing on the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, Congressman Meehan's bill to lift the ban. And, in my recent date with Duncan Hunter, he asserted that the men and women in the military do not want to serve with gays.
Well, not quite, as we recently learned in the New York Times, when Capt. Scott Stanford, a heterosexual National Guard commander of a headquarters company who returned from Iraq in June, said "Would you rather have a felon than a gay soldier? I wouldn't."
We don't know how far Hunter will get in his quest for the White House, but I , for one, am looking forward to seeing him on the campaign trail. Perhaps it'll be the perfect opportunity for another date with Duncan Hunter.

While he will make for an interesting candidate, I wonder how much traction Rep. Hunter will be able to get in a crowded field. After all, there are two Senators who are Vietnam vets that are likely to run.
Not only are his views on gays in the military trouble, I wonder what (further) proposed rollbacks he has in mind for military women.
